Progressivism: Moving Forward One step at a time...
Progressivism was the movement toward social, political, and economic reform. It was a response toward the injustices presented and brought upon the people by big businesses such as Standard Oil, a domineering company run by one of the world's richest, John D. Rockefeller. Its roots came from early reformists, such as the Greenback Labor Party of the 1870s and the Populists of the 1890s. However, the tending of the sprout that would one day grow into the tree that is now known as progressivism was performed primarily by the one and only, Theodore Roosevelt. Teddy created a program that would embrace the 3 c's: control of corporations, consumer protection, and conservation of natural resources. This was known was the "Square Deal"
